Wow what a blow job!!!

Mt. St. Helens, that is :op

I've been doggy-sitting at an attorney in my office's house for the past week and a half. He lives up in the hills out here in Northwest Portland, it's about 1,100 + feet above sea level. The views are magnificent. There's a park right down the street from his home (which sits on the top of a cliff, way cool), Council Crest Park. You can see the whole entire city from up there. The other day I was walking Cinder, the chocolate lab I'm doggy-sitting, up there in the morning around 7 am, and where we were it was sunny and beautiful, and I could look down and see a layer of clouds below, blanketing the valley. Very beautiful - I mean, I was literally higher up than the clouds!

Well, yesterday afternoon after I got home from work, Cinder and I were taking our usual walk through the park. It was around 5:30 when I got there. There wasn't very many people/dogs there, which is unusual. Everyone in that area takes their dogs there in the mornings & evenings to walk/exercise them. Anyway, we make our way around the bend and over to the big viewpoint. There are about 7 or 8 people there, all staring in the same direction and going "wow!" and "this is awesome!" I look where they're looking and there it is.... Mt. St. Helens is erupting!!! I wasn't sure if this was "the big one" or not, but everyone was sure acting like it was. I've only been in Oregon 3 1/2 years so I obviously wasn't around to see the big eruption in 1980, so I have nothing to compare it to. But it was a big huge cloud of ash/smoke. Grrrrrrrrrrr of course I didn't bring my digital camera with me, and I didn't want to leave to run to the house and get it. I should have. Everyone had their camera phones out taking pictures. My cell isn't a camera phone. Again, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I tried to call a few people but it's so high up, my cell won't work. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr to the third. So, I just plop down and watch, the old fashioned way.

People started arriving....... by the fucking truckload. The 'park driveway' goes around in a circle, and within about 10 minutes of my getting there, there were cars parked around the entire thing, and staring to double up. There were hundreds of people. Cinder was going nuts b/c of all the excitement, and all the dogs that came along with the people.

Anyway.......... it was absolutely spectacular, and for once, I was in the right place at the right time. I was in awe. It was so cool to watch, I just couldn't tear myself away. After about 1/2 hour it was starting to get dark, and the big huge cloud had dissipated. Totally made my day - nature at it's finest.
