Ahhhhhhh the Holidaze

Well let me start by saying I’m not super religious, nor am I into "the holiday thing" - I’m single (divorced), I don’t have any kids nor do I have a lot of money, so I’m kinda bah-humbugy about it all. Pretty much, to me, Thanksgiving means food – shitloads of it, and football – two of my very favorite things. Is that wrong of me? Yes, I think I’ve lost the magic. The day I, as an 8 year old, accidentally wandered into the basement closet a week before Xmas and found the sit ‘n’ spin I had begged Santa for but evidently mysteriously bought and hidden by mom & dad, I knew it was over. It was kind of the decline of my seriously believing in a lot of things, and my phlegmatic view of the holiday season. I went to church one Sunday after that (my parents made me, and they were Baptists in Philly, it was NOT fun, trust me) and wondered, ‘If Santa isn’t real and the tooth fairy isn’t real, is God really real, or is this just another thing parents do to trick kids into believing things?’

I now live thousands of miles away from my parents (oh yeah and sister too – sometimes I know it’s horrible to say but I forget I have one, we’re not really close and don’t really talk much at all, but I still love her well just because she’s my sister and I have to, right?). It’s terribly expensive for me to go home for Turkey Day, so I usually go the week before or the week after (which is 12/3 – 12/11 for me this year). I try to get home twice a year so I have to keep the costs down, since I’m not rolling in dough like I had hoped for in my early and ingenuous days. It’s not a lot of fun, it’s sitting around with my old but sweet as hell parents, doing nothing but watching TV and staring at the wall.

Anyway, enough of that sappy bullshit :o)

Inspired by Mr. Mulgrew, here’s my list of things I’m thankful for:

That my parents (dad, especially, given his health problems) are still alive & kickin.

That so far I haven't dropped dead of a heart attack given I'm a total Type A with a family history of heart disease and high blood pressure, and no one will give me VALIUM!!

That Andy Reid is the Eagles' coach and turned this team into WINNERS, and that T.O. and D-Mac are like two peas in a pod.

That the Dallas Cowboys blow thhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaat much! :o)

For the great boss/job I have - we went out to lunch today and I had 3 glasses of wine and get to goof off the rest of the day - gotta love that!

Brett Favre and Javy Lopez – just because they’re so fucking hot!

Valium…… if only I could get my hands on some!

Tug McGraw – been my favorite baseball player since I was around 12, the Phillies winning the Series in ’80 was one of my favorite memories EVER

Pizza – with lots and lots of MEAT – YUM!

Cheesesteaks – not the "Philly cheesesteak" that most cities claim to be able to make – fuck no! I’m talkin about a REAL cheesesteak!

Chocolate chip ice cream

Frozen Hershey’s bars

Christmas bonuses

The Portland Eagles’ Nest!

Italian food – ALL of it.

High definition TV – holy shit have you seen this????

Having a very high metabolism

Lemonheads and Starburst – good stuff!
